Wanted: Unused tools and equipment
The Homeward Bound programme at the St. Vincent de Paul Hostel in Carlow is a project which provides activities, training and support to the men who are living at the Monastery Hostel. The programme aims to equip the men with some of the life skills necessary to enable them to make the transition from the Hostel to independent living.
In light of this we are currently in the process of transforming a small garage into a DIY and Craft Workshop. The skills learned in the Workshop will enable the men to carry out practical maintenance around their own home as well as providing a much needed source of leisure activity as they move towards independent living. Jimmy Deely, the programme Facilitator hopes that the good people of Carlow and the surrounding areas can help to transform the garage by donating any unused hand tools and DIY equipment to the Workshop Project. These may include general hand tools from the carpentry, plumbing, engineering and electrical areas well as general DIY tools which people may have bought from some of the large discount supermarkets with the best of intentions, but are now lying unused in a shed.
Jimmy adds “So if you have any equipment which is in reasonable condition and is gathering dust in your shed, donating to us will help you de-clutter your garage and at the same time provide some much needed support to this very worthwhile project.” All those from the Monastery Hostel would like to thank the public in advance for their help in bringing this Workshop to life. Donations may be dropped to the Monastery Hostel on the Dublin Rd in Carlow between 9am and 9pm, and should anyone require any advice on the suitability of their items, please do not hesitate to call Jimmy Deely on 059 9164344 or 087 9429038

MYSHALL PARISH MAGAZINE 2011
At the first meeting of the Parish Magazine 2011 Committee, it was decided to produce our 18th edition in full colour throughout. This will certainly make the Magazine very attractive but it does have its disadvantages as it means (a) all items must be with the committee by November 18th and (b) photographs should be of a good quality. We intend keeping the price at €5 so the valuable contribution of advertisers will, as always, be gratefully appreciated.
Naturally we want every club to have its annual report with us but we would also welcome other items ranging from historical items to modern times, travel news, short stories, views, reviews, etc. The next meeting takes place on Monday 31st October in the Community Centre at 8.30 p.m. and we welcome new members or just some new ideas.

Myshall & Drumphea Heritage
The second meeting of Myshall & Drumphea Heritage was held on Tuesday.
The people present looked at some excellent video footage of events in the parish going back over forty five years and it is expected that there will be a night for all the Parish to come and enjoy looking at all events, and they might see themselves on screen. The date is not finalised as yet but it will be in March.
There is still some wonderful video material through the Parish and beyond and we would very kindly ask people to share it with us for the Parish to see.
There was a proposition of walking the routes of the different Mass Paths throughout the Parish during the summer evenings with local people pointing out various land marks, taking photographs and parts video taped, with the photos and tapes put on display at the end of the year.
Maps were looked at and they showed a lot of dwelling houses in different places and there is not a trace of some of them today. There were other great topics touched on and will come up again.
The people present at the meeting found it very enjoyable as the time flew. The next meeting is Tuesday the 15th of February. Venue will be announced later. This meeting is open to every one to come along, and we need help and information and news from every one in the parish. It’s our own Story.

To All Community/Tidy Towns Groups
Please be advised that the deadline for CCDP call for funding is fast approaching. The final date for application is 21st January 2011.
I am very conscious that funding within the Local Authority is severely restricted for 2011 and it is extremely important for ALL groups to tap into funding or training opportunities where ever they present themselves.
I spoke to Edel Galvin in Carlow CCDP who informed me that there are significant numbers of applications arriving in. In the interest of moving forward, it is imperative that the active Tidy Towns groups avail of this opportunity offered by CCDP.
If you have any queries Edel can be contacted on 059-9720733 or Jannette on 059-9136203.
