The committee is also holding a Cabaret on St. Stephen’s night in Roberts Lounge Myshall as like most people in Ireland at the moment the committee is in debt but not by billions or millions – just thousands. Myshall & Drumphea & Surrounds: In Song and in Story
Social History.
Down through the years and the centuries our forefathers and mothers left us a rich legacy especially by word of mouth, handed down from generation to generation, around the fireside, other great stories was handed down in writings, and also by other means. In the last sixty years Ireland has seen unprecedented changes in all walks of life, and it has happened in every town, village and town lands in the country. Sadly the changes is also seeing much of the this great material disappearing, especially as we stand at the gravesides of loved one’s knowing full well we did not listen when they were relating the real stories, and now it’s gone forever.
The parish of Myshall and Drumphea and surrounds is one such parish where there is a wealth of folklore still to be tapped, and it is up to us the present generation to leave the best we can for the generations to come.
To start the ball rolling the first meeting or get together for all people in the parish and beyond to come on next Tuesday December 14th in Myshall Community Centre at 7-30 pm. This meeting is open to everyone it’s about our heritage and we will take it from there. Jenette O’Brien, Community and Enterprise, Carlow Co Council will also attend.

TIDY TOWNS
Myshall Muintir Na Tire received the results of the 2010 Tidy Towns competition for
Myshall last week and the good news is that we improved by four marks on last year's score with a total of 279 points. The winners Tallanstown Co. Louth received 309 marks. Unfortunately we dropped marks in the 'Tidiness' section with weeds and litter near Tobar Bhride, the Community Centre and Car Park area, the area opposite the grotto and the entrance to Naomh Eoin. On the plus side the following areas got great praise: Catholic Church, Church of Ireland Church, Myshall School, The village centre with the pump, Myshall Inn and Roberts business premises, Tobar Bhríde itself and the
Millennium Park. The Meadows Residential area was one of the best observed anywhere on the day of adjudication and there was also high praise for Mountain View and St. Oliver's Park. Congratulations to all involved in maintaining the village. Unfortunately the work on the Community Centre made this area less attractive this year and since the adjudication huge improvements have been made thanks to our dedicated new Fas workers Michael Doyle and Garry Sinnott. With improvements like this we are really looking forward to 2011.

The Parish of Myshall and Drumphea Social History 2010
There is a growing number of people in our parish that have a deep love of social history, such as places, townlands, landmarks and sites that were on of the old maps, and have disappeared, from the modern maps, land marks and buildings, the census of 1901, 1911, photos and clips of videos from events way back and much, much more. There is a huge tradition in our parish and it is high time that all information is collated that we leave a copy of what life was like in our parish as far back as we can go, for the generations to come. To this end there will be an open meeting in early September for all to come, every ones contribution is welcome.

We say well done to all our Co Players at all levels who have done
The amount of training and coaching that is going on in Football, Hurling, Camogie, Ladies Football from four years of age up to adult men and women is something else, and the response from all the players at all levels, is massive, and we thank them for that.
Away from the field of play there is a huge amount of work being done with the
provision of a wheel chair toilet, separate ladies and gents toilets, first aid room, and a referees room, as well as completing the hurling wall, the wall and gates separating the pitches from the parking and maintaining and looking after the two wonderful pitches. These facilities are for everybody young and old in the parish to enjoy and the club members are leaving a great legacy for the years to come. We urge every one to call down and see for your self every one is welcome
In all aspects support over the years from the whole parish for all Naomh Eoin teams, men and women at games, events and financial has been huge and always there and we thank every one for that loyal support.
To raise money the club has organised a good draw which will take place on
Saturday August 28th at a cabaret in Roberts lounge. Tickets are €5 each or three for €10. All the players and club officers are giving great support to every thing the club is doing this year and all the players are selling tickets and we
encourage the whole parish to get involved as well as selling to all our brothers
sisters and friends who are living away from the parish. The target for this draw is €15,000 plus. Thank you for your loyal support.

Myshall Hall Committee
The members of Myshall Hall Committee would like to extend sympathy to our secretary Theresa Butler on the death of her brother-in-law and to the whole Butler family. We would also like to offer apologies to any group or individual who has been inconvenienced due to our current refurbishments. The committee would also like to thank Leo Farrell who is now retired as caretaker of the Centre and wish the new Fas Workers every success. Work is still ongoing but the kitchen and toilets are now nearing completion and the new heating system will make a tremendous difference to the overall comfort of the Centre. There are a couple of stainless sinks and a few kitchen units available to anyone who might want them – contact P.J. Walsh (Chairperson) if interested. We expect to be back in full operation in September and we are currently looking into the possibility of hosting various activities – American Tea Party, Fashion Show, Cookery Demonstrations, Teenage Discos, Film nights are some of the items being discussed at the moment but the first major event will be a feast of music by the ‘Carrigbyrne Pike Choir’ details of which will be announced later. A meeting of everyone interested will take place at 9 p.m. in the Centre on Thursday August 12th to view progress made to date and to discuss further events. Your support is always welcome.

July 14th 2010
Dear people of Drumphea, Myshall and surrounding areas,
Last week was one of my proudest moments in this Parish with the celebration of the Bi– Centenary of Drumphea Church. The week of prayer and celebration was a fitting way to mark this historic occasion. I was delighted to see so many people attending the various ceremonies, particularly the Celebration last Sunday.
I want to thank the organising Committee who planned, worked and made this Celebration a really great event. Thanks to all who came from far and near. Our thanks to Bishop Moriarty, the Priests and Religious, the musicians, singers and entertainers and to all who helped in any way. Thanks to all who prepared the Church area and its surrounds.
I was delighted to see so many young people who came on the Wednesday night. Thanks to Fr. Paddy and all who helped him on this occasion.
I thank God for such a wonderful week and ask God’s continuous blessing on all the families of the community and beyond.
St. Laserian pray for us.
Prayerful best wishes

- Lismaconly Cemetary has
again entered this years competition for the best kept Cemetery
in Co. Carlow for 2010. The cemetery which will celebrate 100
years in two years time, is looking well at the moment, thanks
to all the people who look after their graves. However it will
need an extra push if the cemetery is to win first prize. There
are a number of graves that have caved in after many years, and
needs attention, some graves have no one belonging to them left,
and holes have appeared making them dangerous if people walk on
them. The graveyard has been sprayed and some of the dead weeds
need to be removed
Work needed to be done.
The green grass on the path ways edged neat and straight.
Brush or blow and clean dirt from between coping stones.
A small few coping stones need to be lifted and levelled.
Rake paths and all around by boundary wall.
Fill up the holes in the unmarked graves and spread a small bit of hayseed.
Calvary also needs attention cleaning and painting.
Paint gate.
Many people feel a few seats at different locations would add to the graveyard we will ask the Co. Council about this, also a couple of local people have expressed a wish to donate seats. Many people would like to see a nice plaque remembering all the Holy Innocence that are buried in Lismaconly Cemetery.
As judging is from June to September and three visits unannounced by the judges it is important that have the Graveyard looking well at all times.
We would welcome voluntarily help from people on Tuesday June 6th starting at 7-00 pm for a couple of hours bring a few tools, spade, shovel, rakes sweeping brush etc.
If any person needs a grave cleaned or attended to contact Tommy Murphy.

Killoughternane Drama Club will present "Sharon's
Grave" in Killoughternane Hall
starting on Wed 12th. This years performance will open in the
newly refurbished hall which has undergone extensive renovations
and improvements. Work has been ongoing for the past three
months and hopefully the improvements to the hall will add to
the enjoyment of the public who are coming to see the play.
The play this year is the classic John B Keane play "Sharon's Grave". Sharon's Grave' was first performed in 1960 and tells of of Trassie Conlee and her fight to protect herself and her brother Neelus from their crazed cousin, Dinzee. The action takes place in a small farmhouse on an isolated headland on the south-western seaboard of Ireland during the 1930's. Keane's play about the struggle between the forces of good and evil and the mythical beliefs of 1930’s rural Ireland deals with a man’s ruthless lust for land, which overrides all family loyalties, and can ultimately lead to tragedy.
The performance will start each night at eight fifteen and its being staged on the following nights Wed 12th, Thurs 13th, Sat 15th, Sun 16th, Tue18th, Thurs 20th and Sun 23rd.
