MYSHALL ART GROUP
In November 2006, Myshall Muintir na Tire, in an effort to encourage tourism and enterprise in the locality, called for the establishment of an Art Club. It was hoped to encourage a substantial art/crafts movement in the area where there has been a long tradition of art and creativity - St. Fhoirtcheirn, who evangelised this part of County Carlow in the 5th Century was well known as 'the skilled metal worker'.
There has been great interest in this group already. One of its first projects was to design a logo for Myshall to be incorporated into wrought iron flower box holders for the main street of the village, complimenting Tidy Towns efforts and adding uniformity to the street landscape.
To commemorate the All-Ireland Vintage Rally hosted in Carlow for the first time by our own Blackstairs Vintage Club and our participation in the National Pride of Place Competition, we were thrilled to get together a 2008 Calendar of beautiful scenes of Myshall, Drumphea and its environs.
However, our proudest achievement to date is the opening of Myshall's first
Art Gallery in time for the influx of visitors on July 1st. Art Group members
are delighted to display samples of their work - painting, ceramics, stained
glass, woodcraft and photography. There is an abundance of talent in this place
and Myshall Art Group intend highlighting this in the future.
Many of our members are amateurs, some are professional e.g. Glenn Lucas, wood turner, was recently honored with an elite group of craftspeople in Áras an Uachtaráin, personally invited to meet President McAleese.
Our membership is varied - art graduates, farmers, teachers, doctors,
businessmen and women, young and old which is great as everyone has something
different to offer. We envisage great things for our club, not least a number of
enterprises hopefully.
